I wanted to give you an update on being vegan as well as continuing my weight loss journey. Transitioning from eating anything I want to barely eating anything, was difficult. I transitioned in steps though first giving up dairy and then meat. I have found it surprisingly easy to stay on track, and it has definitely helped my weight loss. Even when I skip the gym, I am not gaining weight because my diet is extremely strict. I have been a vegan for about a month now and wanted to share which products I like and which ones I do not like. I do want to mention that I do not eat a lot of wheat because that will cause me to gain weight so I eat a lot of veggies and that works for me.
Products I would not try again:
Annies Vegan Mac n Cheese– The mac n cheese had a creamy texture but did not have a cheesy flavor. I would not recommend this product, it will not satisfy your craving for cheese in my opinion.
Gardein beefless burger– I love burgers but this product had a weird texture and taste. There was a strong tomato flavor that ruined the taste for me.
Daiya shredded cheese– This cheese tasted okay, but the texture was rubbery. I rather not eat cheese if this was my only option. If you are going to melt this and use it for mac n cheese, then try that but my suggestion would to not add it to a salad or use it in any way that its not melted.
Kung Pao Tempura Cauliflower- I was so excited to try this and it took me a while to find because my Trader Joes was constantly running out of them. The cauliflower although kind of crispy, was kind of mushy and the breading would fall off. That was not the worst part, the worst part was the sauce, it was very spicy and ruined the taste. I would recommend making your own at home and adding whatever sauce you like, unless you like very spicy foods then try it!
Products I like:
Earth Balance Soy Free Buttery Spread- This is my favorite butter that I use, I use it for cooking and baking.
Natural Bliss Caramel Almond Milk Creamer– I use this everyday with decaf coffee, and it is amazing and makes my coffee taste great.
Gardein Crispy Tenders – These “chicken” tenders were delicious. They are perfect in a salad or with some veggies for dinner. They get pretty crispy and the texture is good.
My vegan journey has been pretty positive, and I am getting used to eating more and more veggies. I try vegan products once in a while but mostly stick to eating cauliflower and quinoa. An important habit I have gained is reading labels, especially how much sugar a product has. I try to use products that do not have a long list of ingredients and is low in sugar. I hope this helps and you try some of the products.
